Hershey, PA — Hershey Trust Company today announced that it has entered into a successful lease for the former Milton Hershey School? Springboard Academy site. The tenant is The Vista School, a Pennsylvania-licensed private school serving students with autism spectrum disorder. The Trust Company will submit the transaction to the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General in accordance with a June 2003 agreement signed by the Trust Company, Milton Hershey School, and the Attorney General's office. Milton Hershey School is a cost-free, private school and home for children in financial and social need. Springboard Academy was an innovative program launched by Milton Hershey School in 2007 aimed at easing students' transition into Milton Hershey School. The program targeted middle school students. Earlier this year, Milton Hershey School made the decision to end the program. Dr. Anthony Colistra, president of Milton Hershey School, stated that while the program had achieved favorable results, those results were not significant enough to warrant the increased cost of the program. "After extensive study, we have determined that MHS has no alternate use for the Springboard facility at this time," Colistra said. "We are pleased to be able to lease the buildings to The Vista School, which was looking for a facility to serve additional students," said Ken Gall, director of real estate at Hershey Trust Company. "Under the terms of this lease, we are confident that we will recoup our investment in this facility." The Trust Company will retain ownership of the facility, so it is available for use in the future if Milton Hershey School's needs change. The Springboard Academy site is located just north of Hersheypark Drive.
