Dear Members of the School Family

This is the first post in our new section entitled “Human Service & the Golden Rule.” This news category has been established to honor Milton Hershey by perpetuating two concepts in which Milton Hershey strongly believed:

Milton Hershey's Business Motto

Business is a Matter of Human Service

The Golden Rule

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

The Press Release and information which follows has been posted to all of the primary alumni bulletin boards and shared with alumni chapters and individual alumni near and far. This is a supplemental campaign to that of the Milton Hershey School. Our School Family is looking for your support for one of our students who is dealing with something most of us could never imagine while students at MHS. Please read the following note and consider helping in any way you can. Your participation in any manner is welcome.

MHS Rallies Around Student Cancer Patient

As Milton Hershey School Senior Chloe Mellott wages a courageous battle against cancer, her Milton Hershey School family is coming together in a show of support.

Students, employees, and alumni will gather for a 24-hour event to honor Chloe and kick off a year-long fundraising effort to raise money in Chloe's name for the American Cancer Society. The School community is hoping to raise $100,000.

A resident of Middletown, Chloe has been struggling with cancer for the past four years.

“Chloe is a brave young woman who serves as an example of grace and courage to all of us,” said Pete Gurt, Vice President of Student Life. “The one favor she has asked for throughout this battle is that we raise money for the American Cancer Society in her name.”

The first major component of the campaign includes a Relay for Life marathon benefiting the American Cancer Society on Nov. 7-8. The relay is a 24-hour event to demonstrate the fact that cancer patients battle their disease 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without a break.

Participation for the event is open to Milton Hershey School students, employees, and alumni, and the local community. Interested groups can e-mail caringforchloe@mhs-pa.org for more information. Donations to the American Cancer Society in Chloe's name may also be sent to Lew Webster, Milton Hershey School, P.O. Box 830, Hershey, PA 17033-0830. Please make checks payable to the American Cancer Society.

The Caring for Chloe campaign will continue through the 2008-09 school year, with upcoming events and fundraisers benefiting American Cancer Society. The relay is a 24-hour event to demonstrate the fact that cancer patients battle their disease 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without a break. It will also serve to bring our community together to celebrate our survivors, remember those that are presently fighting, and to honor those that have succumbed after months and/or yearsof fighting the good fight. Participation for the event is open to Milton Hershey School students, employees, and alumni, and the local community.

What are we asking you to do?

We are asking for teams of 8-15 people to form and be prepared to sign up for one hour increments (more if you'd like) of walking, jogging or running around the MHS track.
