Congratulations to Alumnus of the Year Paul Taylor '53

Paul Taylor '53 was recognized as Alumnus of the Year for 2011 at Commencement on Sunday, June 12. This year marks the 57th anniversary of the award. Recipients of this award have demonstrated humanitarianism and exemplary service to others, achieved distinguished service in their careers, and exhibited high standards of achievements both personally and professionally. The Alumnus of the Year serves as a role model for MHS students and an example of achievement to which they can aspire. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Taylor spent most of his career with Martin Marietta Aerospace Corp. (MMA), where he worked on the Titan I intercontinental ballistic missile program and developed courses and taught classes about experiments to take place on Skylab, America’s first experimental space station. He also worked on the Viking Program, which was intended to determine whether life ever existed on Mars. Toward the end of his career, he worked on classified programs for the National Security Agency, Central Intelligence Agency, and National Reconnaissance Office and earned commendations from all three. In his community, Taylor is one of three remaining charter members of the Southglenn Optimist Club. He has served as president and is currently chairman of the Scholarship Committee and serves on the Policy Committee for the Village Head Start School. Taylor was one of the first alumni to volunteer for Milton Hershey School’s Spartan Ambassador program, an alumni group that assists the School’s Admissions team with outreach and enrollment. Distance from Hershey has not deterred Taylor from supporting MHS; he has visited with various state agencies in Colorado to encourage referrals. Taylor enrolled at MHS in November 1947 at the age of 12. As a student, he participated in the Glee Club for three years and played in the student home baseball league. Academically, he studied printing in the School’s vocational education program.
